About Nantucket Surf and Yoga

Chip Davis is a Nantucket Island native who graduated from Nantucket High School in 1992. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English Teaching from the University of New Hampshire in 1996. He then traveled to Europe in 1997 to go backpacking for two months and to complete an independent study comparing the Danish and American educational systems. This is where Chip’s love of travel and culture began to bloom. Shortly after, Chip returned to the University of New Hampshire to complete a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education in 2000.

Following graduation, Chip continued to travel and surfed many of the premier locations of the world: Hawaii, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Ireland, Spain, and Portugal.

Chip has two amazing children, Lola and Charlie. Lola is 22 and recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. Charlie is 19 and graduated from the Winchendon School Summa Cum Laude. Charlie is a head lifeguard with the town of Nantucket this summer and will be heading off to UMass Amherst’s business school, Isenberg, in the fall. Both are great kids, talented students, and multi-sport athletes.

Chip has dedicated the past 22 years of his life to teaching 8th-grade English at Nantucket’s Cyrus Peirce Middle School. However, he's also found time for surf lessons at the island’s beaches in the summers for almost two decades now. During the past two years, Chip developed a new passion for practicing and teaching yoga and was certified as a 200RYT with a focus on Hatha/Vinyasa Yoga in November of 2022. Additionally, Chip holds a certification to teach Yin Yoga and Yoga for Athletes. He teaches a variety of classes regularly at Supta Yoga on Nantucket. He has also taught classes at MAST, Greater Light for the Nantucket Historical Association, the Nantucket Community School's Teen Yoga program, and at the Nantucket Community Ice Rink for one of its camps last summer. This season, Chip is excited to continue to combine and share his love of surfing and yoga with others, offering a unique mind-body experience for island locals and visitors alike.
